IN TERRE ROUGE COUNTRY

At the heart of the land of the red soil, the town of Dudelange, surrounded by nature in abundance, has a wide range of hiking trails and natural sites. Le’h park, the extensive municipal, wooded park, provides the perfect setting for walking, relaxation or leisure activities, with its rock climbing facilities. Its slopes once climbed, Mont St Jean offers a panoramic view over the town and surrounding area, as well as an opportunity to visit the castle ruins. Ginzebierg boasts long walks as well as tourist cycle routes and the “Haard” nature reserve, a protected zone covering an area of 198 hectares. This site includes an education trail where over twenty species of orchid are to be found. Finally, Dudelange has a reputation for multicultural gastronomy in a diversified environment worthy of a modern town.

Two drive-and-walk circuits, crisscrossing the slopes of the Ginzebierg and the Haard, can begin from Dudelange.

The “South path” crosses from east to west from Dudelange, the Land of the Red Rocks, providing the opportunity to explore former mineral extraction sites where nature has now regained her hold, with their red rocks, canyons and meadows, partly protected. The route also passes by a number of sites that are well worth a visit, including the Fond-de-Gras industrial and rail park and the authentic mining city of Lasauvage (68km).

Not far from Dudelange, cycle path No 8 (“Red Rocks”) takes you to the town of Esch-sur-Alzette and the west of the coal mining region, crossing landscapes characteristic of the Land of the Red Rocks. Cycle path No 6 (“Three Cantons”) leads to the capital and the other tourist regions of the country, combining the use of cycle paths with public transport.
